Training & Scope of Practice

Colon and Rectal Surgery is a subspecialty of general surgery. Colon and rectal surgeons complete medical school and general surgery residency, and then a period of specialized training in colon and rectal surgery. Training is followed by board certifying examinations. Our surgeons are board certified in both General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery. Our practice is limited to Colon and Rectal Surgery.

Colon and Rectal Surgeons provide diagnostic and treatment services for all diseases of colon, rectum, and anus. Both medical and surgical treatments are utilized.

Colon and Rectal Surgeons perform major abdominal surgery for colon cancer, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, and crohn’s disease. Laparoscopic surgery is performed when indicated. Our surgeons also perform colonoscopy for diagnosis and management of colon disorders, for colon cancer screening, and for treatment of colon polyps.

Colon and Rectal Surgeons perform anal surgery for treatment of hemorrhoids, fissures, fistulas, pilonidal disease, hidradenitis, and condyloma.  Medical and non surgical treatments are provided when surgery is not required.  Colonoscopy and anal surgery services are available in our ambulatory surgery center facilities.
