About Dr. Yu
Robert John Yu, M.D., initially received his undergraduate training at the University of Florida where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. He then attended the Boston University School of Medicine and received an M.A. in medical sciences. While working as a research coordinator at Children’s Hospital Boston, he grew to love patient care. He then pursued medical and completed his M.D. degree in 2007 at Ross University. He did an internship in General Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY. Eventually, he completed his General Surgery residency at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine at the University of Illinois. Because of his passion for colorectal diseases, Dr. Yu subsequently completed a fellowship for Colorectal Surgery at the Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh and Erie, PA. Dr. Yu is board eligible in both Colon and Rectal Surgery and General Surgery.
Dr. Yu has acted as a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. A former Florida State Spelling Bee Champion (1994), Dr. Yu is an avid University of Florida athletic supporter.
